The Royal Oak offers locally sourced, home cooked food. We also stock a fine selection of real ales in our cellar, which we serve in our bar which always has a welcoming atmosphere.
The Royal Oak is within short walking distance of York Minster Cathedral and thirty seconds from Monk Bar; the eastern gateway through the medieval city walls of York. Moreover, the pub is built on an old Viking road, long since lost.

The Royal Oak serves up really good food!
Met up with friends and booked for lunch . Food was very good ,although it was Sunday I had the fish and chips instead of the roast and could not fault them . Landlord very friendly and talkative and even told us some ghost stories as it is said to be haunted , .Very good selection of malts ,would not hesitate to recommend and will return when in York again.
Some of the choices on offer include beer-battered haddock and chips, homemade pie of the day and Scottish salmon fillet, as well as some dishes with international influences like the spicy Moroccan tagine, pasta and risotto. Why not head over to The Royal Oak on a Sunday and tuck into the traditional Sunday lunch?
